How to distinguish between forgings and castings?


The main differences are different properties, characteristics and applications, as follows:


1、 Different nature


1. Casting


Castings are metal molded objects obtained by various casting methods, that is, objects with certain shape, size and performance are obtained by pouring, injection, suction or other casting methods into the prepared mold, cooling, grinding and other subsequent processing methods.


2. Forging


Forging refers to the workpiece or blank obtained by forging and deforming the metal blank. The mechanical properties can be changed by applying pressure to the metal blank to produce plastic deformation.


2、 Different characteristics


1. Casting


① . it can produce blanks with complex inner cavity and shape. Such as various boxes, machine bed, cylinder block, cylinder head, etc.


② Large process flexibility and wide adaptability. The size of liquid molded parts is almost unlimited, its weight can range from a few grams to hundreds of tons, and its wall thickness can range from 0.5mm to 1m.


③ The cost of liquid molded parts is low. Liquid forming can directly use waste parts and chips, and the equipment cost is low. At the same time, the machining allowance of liquid formed parts is small and saves metal.


2. Forging


① Large weight range. Forgings can range from a few grams to hundreds of tons.


② , higher quality than castings. The mechanical properties of forgings are better than those of castings, and can withstand large impact force and other heavy loads.


③ The heaviest and lightest. On the premise of ensuring the design strength, the forging is lighter than the casting, which reduces the weight of the machine itself. It is of great significance for vehicles, aircraft, vehicles and Zizhou aviation equipment.


④ Save raw materials. Precision forged forgings can not only save more raw materials, but also save more machining hours.


⑤ And high productivity. For example, using two hot die forging presses to die forge radial thrust bearings can replace 30 automatic cutting machines. The productivity of six axis automatic lathe is 17.5 times that of M24 nut produced by top forging automatic machine.
